The World Sports University Macau Centre successfully hosted the Appointment and Conferment Ceremony, inaugural committee meeting, and thematic seminar of the Traditional Wushu Committee of the General Association of World Sports Federations on 27 May 2026.

The event brought together over twenty distinguished traditional martial arts masters, scholars, and representatives of major wushu schools from different regions of China to discuss the future development, education, and internationalisation of traditional Chinese martial arts.

The establishment of the Committee marks an important step in strengthening academic, professional, and international cooperation in the field of traditional wushu. It also reflects WSU’s ongoing commitment to promoting sports education, cultural exchange, and interdisciplinary collaboration on a global level.

Distinguished Leaders Appointed to the Committee

At the ceremony, Tian Suhui, Vice President of the International Wushu Federation, was appointed Honorary Chairman of the Committee, while Gao Honggang, Executive Chairman of the African Wushu Federation, was appointed Executive Vice Chairman.

Both leaders delivered congratulatory video addresses expressing support for the Committee’s mission to advance traditional wushu internationally and strengthen global cooperation in martial arts development.

Advancing Traditional Wushu Through Education and Research

The thematic seminar, held in the afternoon under the topic “Internationalisation Pathways and Standardisation Development of Traditional Wushu,” focused on several key areas related to education, research, and talent development.

Participants exchanged views on the standardisation of traditional wushu systems, the creation of international training networks for practitioners and inheritors, and the development of specialised higher education programmes in traditional martial arts.
